Christian Gottfried Becker's gravestone

Christian Gottfried Becker's gravestone consists of a metal plate with an inscription and is mounted on a stone base. Becker, a textile entrepreneur, was born in Oberlichtenau in 1771 and died in Chemnitz in 1820. In 1797, he founded a calico weaving mill in Aue and a cotton spinning mill in 1811. He was revered for his charity towards his workers and their families. On his 100th birthday in 1871, a monument was erected in his honor on Poststraße, later Beckerplatz, which no longer exists today. The well-known painter Paula Modersohn-Becker is a descendant of the Becker family. Pictures of her can be found in the Gunzenhauser Museum.
