Avenue of Light

The Avenue of Light is a connecting path between the theater and the city center. It begins below St. John's Church behind the Johanniskarree and ends directly in front of the theater entrance. This results in a path length of approximately 630 m. Four oval squares with seating and originally planned 24 lanterns, which were donated by Chemnitz's 12 twin towns, divide the path, although the lanterns from Timbuktu and Arras are still missing today. The idea originated in 2008 with former theater director Enrico Lübbe, who wanted to make it easier to find the way from the city to the theater in the dark. The project was completed in 2011 with the help of EU funding.
