Memorial to the Victims of Fascism

The memorial to the victims of the Nazi dictatorship was created by sculptor Hanns Diettrich from Rochlitz porphyry and sandstone. It was officially inaugurated in 1952. The front features sculptural scenes in relief, with torment on the left and liberation on the right. The inscription “We stand so that you may live on” and the triangle symbol of political prisoners in concentration camps can also be seen. On the back are words from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Symbolum: "But from beyond, the voices of goodness call out, the voices of the masters: Do not neglect to practice the powers of goodness. Here, crowns of eternal silence writhe, which shall reward the active with abundance. We invite you to hope." Wreath-laying ceremonies take place every year on January 27.
