St. John's Church
The church was first mentioned in 1264 and is one of the oldest buildings in what is now the city. From the 16th century onwards, it was primarily used as a baptismal and burial church. The adjoining St. John's Cemetery was the largest in the city at that time. After the municipal cemetery on Reichenhainer Straße was opened, it was closed in 1874 and later converted into a park. The church has undergone many renovations and has had its current appearance since 1975. The tower houses Chemnitz's oldest church bell, dating from 1475. Since 1995, the church has been used as a Protestant Lutheran youth church.
